“Proof positive” at Georgia Tech’s Living Building – Kendeda

The Kendeda Building at Georgia Tech, a beacon of sustainable design and materials and a certified Living Building, will be showcased on an upcoming episode of America By Design on CBS News, at 9 pm EDT on Saturday, Nov. 15, on CBS News' New York Livestream.

Brian Court, a design partner with Kendeda's design firm Miller Hull, said the use of R-Guard air and water barrier products was critical to the building achieving its net-zero energy goals.

"We have proof-positive that the performance of the building is living up to what we need," he said. "This building for example has far exceeded its net-zero energy goals over the past 5 years. PROSOCO’s air and water barrier is by far the best-performing product out there for a low-energy building.”

A Living Building “first” in Santa Monica

Smart strategies for material reductions led the project team of the City Hall East building in Southern California to choose finished concrete floors.   Adding onto an existing, municipal building registered as a historic landmark didn’t intimidate the project team of the Santa Monica City Hall East (formerly called the[…]

Applying a water repellent with a drone

Last year, Jake Boyer told me that one big trend for masonry cleaning in 2025 would be applications performed via drone. A 260,000+ square-foot high school in Washington is performing at Passive House levels of energy efficiency -- despite the owner never having aspired for it to do so. Passive House was not a stated goal for the architect and owner of Sehome High School in Bellingham, Wash., but the choice[…]
