Rescuing 25,000 square feet of concrete

Above & Beyond Wash and Seal

Above & Beyond Wash and Seal recently shared these photos with us of a 25,000-square-foot garage floor for the Iowa Department of Transportation that was in pretty rough shape.

The in-floor heated concrete had deteriorated to such a condition that tearing it out and replacing it was an option, albeit one that owner Trent Maschmann says would have been "an absolute nightmare."

Instead, Maschmann says, "We were able to go in, diamond grind, skim coat, polish, and apply a water and salt guard to protect it from future damaging. The floor is now instantly repelling water and salt. We were able to save the floor and get them back in business without them having to completely replace it!"

Step-by-step

More specifically, Maschmann said they first ground the floor to get all of the broken pieces of concrete off and then skimmed it with a Laticrete self-leveling concrete to fill in the salt-damaged pits. Once that was cured and ground again, they flooded the floor with Consolideck Blended Densifier and then ran it up to an 800 grit before flooding the floor with Saltguard.
