Applying a water repellent with a drone

Last year, Jake Boyer told me that one big trend for masonry cleaning in 2025 would be applications performed via drone. That has definitely been the case as we've seen this emerging technology become more commonplace for cleanings. What we haven't seen yet this year, until now, is an application of a water repellent via drone.

That changed this fall, when Lucid Bots and FlyBy Shine worked together to clean a concrete stadium with Siloxane WB Concentrate in Mississippi. Our Creative Director John Young went on site to document this "first" for PROSOCO.

In the same amount of time it would have taken another contractor to erect scaffolding for an application of a water repellent at an elevation of 90 feet, FlyBy Shine had already completed the entire application -- by drone. Using a Sherpa drone from Lucid Bots, FlyBy Shine applied Siloxane WB Concentrate to an exterior concrete football stadium structure to protect it from water-related staining and deterioration. For this application at Alcorn State University in Lorman, Miss., the drone treated 4,000 square feet of concrete in 6 working hours. No ladders, scaffolding, or lifts needed, and no crew members working at 90 feet in the air.
